Frequently asked questions
Everything we get asked most often. If yours isn't here, email support@slabscore.io.
How accurate is SlabScore?+
SlabScore uses real-time market data from PriceCharting, which tracks millions of actual card sales. Our 4-component scoring algorithm weighs Profit Potential (40%), Grade Premium (25%), Market Depth (20%), and Downside Protection (15%) to give you an actionable recommendation. Accuracy improves further as you log actual grade outcomes — your prediction-vs-actual track record shows up in the Analytics dashboard.
What grading companies do you support?+
PSA, CGC, TAG, BGS, and ACE — all current tier prices, turnaround times, and per-tier insurance caps. We compare grading costs across every grader so you can pick the best economics for each card. Tier data is refreshed periodically from each grader's public services page.
Is SlabScore really free?+
Yes. The free tier gives you 100 scans/month and a 25-card portfolio, forever, with no credit card required. Pro is $10/month for 1,000 scans + 100-card portfolio + cloud sync across devices. Unlimited is $30/month for serious dealers. There is also a 7-day money-back guarantee on new paid subscriptions.
Does SlabScore actually grade my card?+
No. SlabScore predicts whether grading is worth it. The actual grading is done by PSA, CGC, TAG, BGS, or ACE — you submit to them and pay their fee directly. We have no commercial relationship with any grader and we don't take a cut.
How does the Expected Grade work?+
SlabScore looks at the card's era and population data to estimate the most likely grade outcome (e.g., a vintage Charizard skews toward 8 or 9, a modern Charizard skews toward 9 or 10). You can override the expected grade per card if you have inside info — the score recalculates instantly and the Profit component reflects the new outcome.
What happens if my Expected Grade prediction is wrong?+
The Downside Protection component (15% of the score) accounts for that. We model the worst-case outcome — usually the card grading one notch below expected, or cracking out below 8 — and value the slab accordingly. A high-downside card with strong upside still scores well; a thin-margin card that depends on a 10 will get a lower score.
Where does the price data come from?+
PriceCharting — the same source most card hobbyists use for raw and graded comps. SlabScore makes a server-side API call (your browser never sees a PriceCharting key), pulls the latest sale data, caches it, and refreshes automatically. Free users' analyses use the same data as paid users.
Can I import cards from a spreadsheet?+
Yes. CSV import is on every plan. Download the template from the Add Card modal, fill it in, paste the URL, and SlabScore analyzes the entire batch in parallel. We handle BOM characters, mixed quote styles, and spreadsheet spacer columns automatically.
Do you support sealed product, slabs from other graders, or sports memorabilia?+
Right now: trading cards only — Pokemon, MTG, YuGiOh, sports cards. Sealed product (booster boxes, ETBs) and non-card memorabilia are out of scope. If you grade a card that's already in another company's slab (cross-grading), SlabScore will price the raw and the destination slab but won't factor in the crack-out risk.
Is my data safe?+
Yes. Free users' data is stored locally in your browser via localStorage — nothing leaves your machine. Pro+ users get encrypted cloud sync (Supabase, with row-level security) so the same portfolio appears on every device. You can export everything as CSV and delete your account at any time. Fully GDPR compliant.
What does the Chrome extension do?+
Score cards live on eBay, TCGPlayer, and PriceCharting. While you're shopping, the extension overlays a SlabScore badge on every card detail page so you can decide whether to buy and grade in one click. Free for Pro users (unauthenticated users get 60 scans/hr, rate-limited).
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. Cancel from your profile — the subscription stays active through the end of the current billing period, then drops to free. Cloud-synced cards remain stored after a downgrade; you just won't be able to sync new changes until you re-upgrade. There is also a 7-day money-back guarantee on new paid subscriptions.
